Nitro and damages

Postby calexico on Sat Jan 05, 2008 19:19

Hello,

There is just one thing I don't like in the game : the fact that I cannot press too long the nitro because it damages the car.I found this point a little bit boring and not interesting contrary to the others damages. I think it could be funnier to desactivate the "nitro damage".

Am I the only one to dislike that? :x

I personally like the idea of disabling the nitro damage - although I find it a great challenge to take care of the nitro. Just imagine - if it's a 1 lap race, you can use nitro almost all the time, the car will reach the end anyway - on a 10 lap race though, you'd need to dose your nitro, to manage to finish the race. I like that.

I think the limits on turbo serve the game well.

The arcade mode has turbo damage disabled and in this mode I find my finger is firmly on the turbo for the entire race. If turbo damage was also disabled in non-arcade modes, there would not really be any point to having a turbo trigger, instead the turbo could simply be the high point of constant accelerating and top speed.

Having a limit on turbo use, adds an extra layer of skill and timing which would be lost if turbo damage was not a factor.

There is something important to know about the boost.
If you run fast enough, you may reduce the engine heat.
For exemple, on the "Loopings" track, if you go through the right turn after the double loop at max speed your engine always "beep!". But, if you do it using the best trajectory, when you'll enter the following straight line the engine will stop beeping.
Tip to remember :
AIR+SPEED refresh the engine, so the fastest you run, the less your engine heats

What ? you always put on nitro ?

I think damage are not coming enough quick, or maybe , the car be cold to quicly : because you just need to stop nitro 1sec before using again, and you can use nitro a long time before breacking car

I think it works best the way it is, it stops u hogging the nitro button and allows more skill by timing when you use it. It also allows you to overuse the nitro in situations but also damaging your car.

This makes a great solo/multiplay gameplay. The only thing i would like to see is an option in the game menu to allow :-

- Nitro Toggle mode - EG: you only need to press the nitro once to turn it on and once again to turn it off. Could be usefull for those long hours of racing when your thumb/finger starts to hurt ;)

cheers

That would be a great idea. I use a gamepad and after a dozen laps in training mode, my thumb and fingers start going numb!

same problem of finger elbow cause of the nitro.....too much stress in race I think !
Therefore I will plug again my force feedback wheel to resolve the problem but I'm afraid for the car's control while i will fly. :?

I am using a Logitech G25 steering wheel for this game. Control is fine, nice feedback when running over the rumble strips at the side, but nitro is a pain for two reasons.

1: Having to continually press a button for nitro is a real pain when trying to steer.

2:Nitro can be used for so long its hardly worth having, I would rather do away with it and concentrate on the racing or let you have something like five bursts in a race.

I have tried the different difficulty levels and it seems that you only have to stop using nitro for a second before you can use it again for a fair amount of time. So I think a major rethink is needed or at least have different options within the game for how nitro can be used, when the multiplayer version comes out for LAN play I think we will just say no to nitro!

Just to prove I am not against nitro in a race game, I think it works great in Flat Out 2 though the method of gaining nitro would not fit into this game.

hi jes50 !
You 've got three pedals on your g 25 , and the speed system is sequential so you got a possibility to try ...
other wise you can set the boost , on something else than a bouton ...
i had the same difficulty with the nitro when i started to play that game , unfortunatly i got only the momo from logitech (only two pedals)
but i have found this compromise :
i have set the boost on my accelerator pedal but notice that you when you set it the game ask you too press fooly The command then to say ok and then the game ask you
too realease the command at that moment the tip is to realese only a little beat you command and so you will actionate the boost only if you ground the accelerator !
this my own solution and for the moment i 'm really enjoying piloting so ;)
and i did set the air brake on the brake command becose the air brakes work only if you are in the air so braking is the same pedal on the ground and in the air (the game setting alow to put two command on the same one )

hope that can help you to find your own setting :) , and welcome ! 8)
just excuse my bad english i'm french an eating too much frogs legs !

and remember no pain ! ....
