Problem playing a multiplayer game

Postby Breadfan on Sun Jan 23, 2011 13:09

Hello there!

Me and my friend have the same (updated) version of the game but when we try joining each others game we encounter the following problems:

1. In Multiplayer servers list we CAN see each other and CAN join the session
2. When connected, we can't see each other on the server, the scoreboard shows only 1 player (on each side)
3. Even if the hosting player votes for a track change, the track changes for him but not for the other guy
4. If the hosting player press "RACE" the race starts for him but nothing happens for the other guy

Basically, once joining the server, nothing happens as if we didn't really join but the thing is, we can see each other on the Multiplayer servers list but the problems occure when we actually try joining in. We opened the ports, checked the router settings but no joy.

Any helpful info is apreaciated.

Thanks

Are you trying to play in LAN or each one on a different Internet connection ?
What did you chose in the Options/Network in NSR ?

^^I left it to Automatic (default) but was also setting the port manually. Whatever we did, it didn't work. We'd reserve a port opened in the router settings and chose the same the port in the options, but no joy.

LAN? We just go to the Multiplayer where the servers are listed. He can see my server and I can see his but the moment we try to join on each other, the problem occurs. We have the same internet connection (DSL flat rate).

The problem comes probably from your routers.
Some integrated routers are not compatible with the technology we're using.
What router are you using ? The one from the box of your Internet provider ?

Ok, I don't know this one.

What you should try is :

- Put "Forced" in the game network options, and use the port 5555 (or any other you like).
- Put a static IP on your PC (you'll have to know the IP address of your router (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), and your provider DNS Addresses. If you don't put a static IP you won't be able to forward a port to your PC. Your connection setting should have something like (supposing your router address is 192.168.0.1):

IP : 192.168.0.10 (make sure this address is not used by another PC on your local network).
SubNet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.0.1

DNS 1 : your 1st provider DNS address
DNS 2 : your 2nd provider DNS address

- Go in your router settings and forward the port 5555 to the fixed IP of your PC (192.168.0.1).

Now, if this doesn't work, I afraid your router is not behaving like it should (it's probably symmetric), and we can't do anything about it.

For your information, the technique the game is using to traverse NATs is hole punching :
